Deploy an app from the catalog to Intune

This article shows how to publish a catalog app to Intune, using 7-Zip as an example. The steps are the same for every package in the public catalog.

Before You Start

  • Microsoft Intune is connected to Agentic Packr.
  • You have a default User Experience template and a default Intune Deployment template.
Find the Package
  1. Open Catalog and select the Public tab. All packages here are maintained by Splashtop and marked Certified.

  2. Search for the app or narrow the list with the filters next to the search box, then click the package.

  3. Review the package page: description, existing deployments, versions, and release notes. A package can be deployed more than once; click New deployment to add another.

Use the .intunewin link to download the exact package sent to Intune, or the PSADT link to download the source for review.

Deploy It
  1. Click Deploy to Intune.

  2. Apps: leave the install context on AI-detected. Agentic Packr detects it from the package (e.g., Machine). Choose System or User only if the detection is wrong.

  3. User experience: your default User Experience template is selected and summarized under This deployment. Click Adjust to change settings for this deployment only.

  4. Deployment: your default Intune Deployment template is selected. The summary shows the real group names.

  5. Overview: What gets created lists the install app and the update-only app; All settings shows the assignments and update policy. Targets marked "new" are groups that will be created. If an app with the same name already exists in Intune, a warning appears. Click Deploy.

Monitor Publishing
  1. Go to Deployment → Intune. A job card shows progress. Publishing takes about 3 minutes; click Refresh to update the status. You can also follow the job in the Tasks tray in the header.

  2. When publishing finishes, both apps show Assigned with Auto-follow: After 7 days. The update-only app has an Update only badge, and every row has Assign and Details buttons.

Verify the Result
  1. Click Details on the install app. Use Sync (refresh status), Edit assignment, Redeploy, or Remove; each section has its own Edit button. The status tiles and the device install status can take a few minutes to load.

    Deployment page

  2. In the Intune admin center, go to Apps → Windows apps. Both apps are listed with Splashtop Agentic Packr as the developer. The new groups (e.g., 7-Zip-x64-Required) appear in Entra ID and are empty.

Note: Dialog settings are part of the install command, not the package. Changing them updates Intune without re-uploading the package. Devices that already installed the app keep the old behavior until the next install or repair.

What Happens Next

  • Nothing installs until you add devices or users to the Required group (e.g., 7-Zip-x64-Required).
  • Users can install the app from Company Portal (Available to All users).
  • The update-only app (All devices) upgrades existing older copies at the next check-in.
  • New versions are published automatically after the wait period (default 7 days).
  • To remove the app from a device, add the device to the Uninstall group. To remove the app from Intune entirely, click Remove on the deployment page.
